What makes it different
No corporate filler. Cuts "I am writing to express my interest" and every other dead phrase. Opens with something worth reading.
Grounded in proof. Pulls from the real bullets you paste in. Not generic claims anyone could make.
Tailored to the role. The prompt connects your experience specifically to what they're asking for — not a template with blanks filled in.
Fast. Three paragraphs. Under 250 words. Paste in, get back something sendable in under 5 minutes.
Example output
Use the prompt below with a real job posting and you get something like this:
Cover letter — Acme Corp, Director of Demand Gen
I run demand gen at Zapier. The pipeline engine I built there produces $15M+ per quarter across paid, organic, and lifecycle channels. Your role is the same job with a different logo, and I'd bring the playbook with me.
Three things stood out in the posting. First, you want someone who can own full-funnel, not just top. That's what I do. I built Zapier's lifecycle program from zero to a revenue channel that rivals paid. Second, you mention cross-functional work with product and sales. At Pendo, I sat in the sales standup every week and built campaigns directly from rep feedback. Third, the AI angle — I've built AI-native workflows across the entire demand gen stack. Not experiments. Operating model.
Happy to walk through the numbers. Here's my LinkedIn if you want the full picture before we talk.
Every letter is different. Tailored to the specific role, company, and job description you paste in.

PROMPT — paste into any AI chat
Write a cover letter for me. Here is the job posting:
[PASTE FULL JOB DESCRIPTION]
Here are my strongest resume bullets:
- [BULLET 1 — e.g. "Built demand gen engine at Zapier: $15M+/Q in qualified pipeline"]
- [BULLET 2 — e.g. "Launched 4-tier AI fluency framework required for all new marketing hires"]
- [BULLET 3 — e.g. "Director of Integrated Marketing at Pendo — owned full GTM launch for 3 products"]
- [BULLET 4 — optional]
My name: [YOUR NAME]
Company I'm applying to: [COMPANY NAME]
Role: [ROLE TITLE]
Cover letter guidelines:
- 3 paragraphs, under 250 words
- Lead paragraph: one or two sentences that establish who I am and why this role fits — not "I am writing to express my interest"
- Middle paragraph: connect 2-3 of my bullets directly to what they're asking for in the posting — be specific
- Closing: brief, forward-looking, one concrete next step
- Tone: direct, confident, slightly informal — like a capable operator dashed it off, not like a template
- No phrases like: "I am passionate about," "leverage," "synergy," "spearhead," "I would be thrilled"
- No em dashes
Copy the output, paste into a Google Doc or Word, review, and attach to the application. Edit anything that doesn't sound exactly like you.
Step 2
Refine if needed
If the first draft misses the tone or goes too long, use this follow-up prompt in the same chat window to sharpen it.
PROMPT — paste into any AI chat
Tighten this up. Cut to under 200 words. Keep the strongest specific detail from each paragraph and drop everything else. Make the opening sentence something a real person would actually say — not a polished intro line. If it sounds like a cover letter template, rewrite it until it doesn't.
One round of refinement is usually enough. Don't over-prompt — the first draft is the cleanest version.

Using Claude Code?
Skip all of the above. I built this as a native Claude Code skill — one command reads the job posting, pulls from your resume and career context, and drafts the letter in your voice automatically. Outputs a .docx file ready to attach.
CLAUDE CODE
/cover-letter https://jobs.lever.co/company/role-id
# Or paste a job description directly after the command
Claude Code reads your resume.pdf and career context, drafts the letter in your voice, and outputs a formatted .docx file. No copy-paste between steps — open the file, make any edits, and attach.
Tips for better results
Paste the full job description. The more specific the input, the more tailored the output. A one-line job title produces a generic letter.
Use metrics in your bullets. "Managed demand gen" gets you a generic draft. "$15M+/quarter in pipeline" gets you something specific worth reading.
Edit the output. The letter is a strong draft, not a final product. Add one personal detail or cut a sentence that doesn't sound like you.
Pair with auto-apply. Use Auto-Apply for the standard form fields and this skill for the cover letter — both use the same job description as input.
